What does it measure?
The Soil Labile Amino Nitrogen test measures the “nearly available Nitrogen” bonded in an organic molecule. The Potentially Available Nitrogen (PMN) as measured by the Haney / Solvita 24 hour burst test will be the first available Nitrogen content. The SLAN Nitrogen content less the (PMN) Haney / 24 hour burst test provides an indication of the reserve organic Nitrogen.
Relevance to Soil Health?
A healthy soil will generally maintain a good content of SLAN Nitrogen. Usually this content should be more than double the (PMN) “first available content” as provided by the Haney / Solvita 24 hour burst test.
Conclusions from results?
A good SLAN content in relation to the PMN content will provide an indicator of both health and fertility.
